On Sunday, Juan Pedro López took a hard fall during the descent in the Circuito de Getxo. Amazingly, he did not suffer any serious injuries. However, the Lidl-Trek rider was visibly shaken, especially after watching the footage of his crash. Just before the crash, López was still on the attack. Along with his teammate Quinn Simmons, he was responding to a breakaway attempt by Maxim Van Gils on the steep Alto de Pike. After the leading group was caught during the descent, things went wrong. The Spaniard was leading the descent when he crashed hard, even sliding under the guardrail. Fortunately, with a great deal of luck, he came out of it unharmed.
López was fully aware of how lucky he had been. "I just saw the video of my crash," the rider said on his
X account. "How lucky I was... This is cycling. I will come back in the best possible way. Many thanks to everyone for the support!"
