Team background
In 2011, the team was founded as Leopard Trek, licensed in Luxembourg, and built around high profile stars like the Schleck brothers Andy and Fränk, and Fabian Cancellara. A year later, the team merged with RadioShack. Cancellara had a historic season in 2013, winning both the Tour of Flanders, and Paris-Roubaix just a week later. With Tom Boonen, he is one of just two riders who have accomplished this feat more than once. In that same season he also came third at Milano-San Remo.
The 2013 season was marred by a public rift between the team and the Schleck brothers, when Fränk's contract was not renewed.
Ten years later, in 2023, the teams, then known as Trek-Segrafredo, after the coffee brand which has mean a co-title sponsor since 2016, were rebranded again as Lidl-Trek. In 2025, Lidl became the main sponsor and majority owner. It meant the team's registration moved to Germany.
The team had a successful 2026 season, taking 33 victories across the year. Both Juan Ayuso and Mattias Skjelmose were in the top 10 at the Tour de France, and Mads Pedersen topped the points classification, taking home the green jersey for the team. Their fast man Jonathan Milan also took home multiple wins across the season.
Milan (Italy) is one of multiple national champions who call Lidl-Trek their home, alongside Quinn Simmons (USA), Mathias Vacek (Czechia), and national time trial champions Derek Gee-West (Canada), Amanuel Ghebreigzabhier (Eritrea) and Söderqvist Jakob (Sweden).
