Thymen Arensman has extended his contract with INEOS Grenadiers for three more years, as the British team announced one day before the start of the Tour de France. The Dutchman has raced for INEOS over the past two years, finishing in the top ten of the Giro d'Italia both seasons.
"Arensmania," INEOS enigmatically posted around 10:15 AM on Friday on their social media channels. Quick thinkers recognized it could only mean a contract extension for Arensman, who also had offers from other teams. However, after two years with INEOS, he feels he still has more to learn with the team, leading him to sign a new deal that will run until the end of 2027.
After the Giro, Arensman mentioned to IDLProCycling.com that he believes INEOS can help him take the next step. "I think so, definitely. The team has confidence in me. They see me as a podium contender and a leader, so as far as I’m concerned, I’m in a great place here."
He reiterated this sentiment on Friday. "I'm very happy with my contract extension with INEOS Grenadiers, which was a very easy decision for me. I've been riding here for two years and feel completely at home, surrounded by amazing people who always do everything to get the best out of me. I perform best when everything remains stable, so I'm very happy to stay with INEOS for another three years."
Scott Drawer, performance manager at INEOS Grenadiers, added: "Thymen is a super talented rider who has already played a key role in the grand tours for two years. He has learned a lot in the past two seasons and will continue to be part of our team’s successful formula. He loves to learn and pushes himself to eventually compete for a podium in a grand tour, and we are, of course, eager to support him in that. Together, we can get the maximum out of him."
