Kyrylo Tsarenko claimed overall victory at the Tour of Hainan on Friday. The 24-year-old Ukrainian from Team Solution Tech–Vini Fantini took control on stage three of the five-day stage race in China and never let go of the leader’s jersey. XDS-Astana collected a mountain of UCI points in this 2.Pro race, with two stage wins and a third and fourth place in the general classification.

Despite its 2.Pro status giving it a solid reputation, the Tour of Hainan’s start list is never particularly star-studded due to its spot on the calendar. That makes it all the more attractive for smaller teams—or WorldTour squads in need of UCI points—to travel to such races. On stage 1, Matteo Malucelli took the win in a bunch sprint, followed by Tsarenko’s teammate Dušan Rajović doing the same on stage 2.

In a tough hilly stage, Tsarenko took control of the GC by winning stage 3 in a two-man sprint. On stage 4, it was Astana celebrating again with a sprint victory from Aaron Gate. Friday’s final stage was won by Alexander Salby, sealing the overall win for Tsarenko.
Astana got Gate onto the podium in 3rd place and also saw Henok Mulubrhan finish fourth in the overall standings. A pretty successful week for Alexandre Vinokourov and company, then. Check out the results of the five stages below.
