"Code red issued in Lombardy": Will Tre Valli Varesine featuring Pogacar and Evenepoel get washed out?

Will the Tre Valli Varesine race actually be happening on Tuesday? The Italian Varese region is currently enduring extreme rainfall, and the weather forecast for Tuesday doesn't look promising either. The race features a stellar lineup with riders like Tadej Pogacar, Remco Evenepoel and Primoz Roglic, and there is also a women's race on the schedule.

However, it's uncertain if we'll get to see these world-class cyclists in action. Local authorities have declared a code red for the Lombardy region, with Varese being one of the twelve provinces affected. According to the latest weather forecasts, between 200 and 250 millimeters of rain could fall over twelve hours on Tuesday.

Whether or not Tre Valli Varesine takes place, it's unlikely to be a setback for Pogacar. The Slovenian cycling phenomenon doesn't need to fine-tune his form. In the Giro dell'Emilia, he followed up his incredible solo ride from the World Championships with yet another impressive solo performance. Already on the first of five climbs of San Luca, in Bologna, he dropped the competition from his wheel. Visma | Lease a Bike will also have a team in the race, including Wilco Kelderman and Matteo Jorgenson. The latter tried to keep up with Pogacar on Saturday but paid a heavy price for it.
