Discomfort and resignation can be read off Vollering's face: "They'll then ride for her"

On Saturday, Demi Vollering booked a nice victory at the Tour de Romandie for women. However, after appearing on camera, the woman from South Holland seemed mildly pleased rather than exhilarated with her victory. Indeed, she sprinted for the win against her teammate Lotte Kopecky, a sprint with consequences. Indeed, the latter holds the leader's jersey.

"It was super hot today, so I have a headache," Vollering said after the race in the flash interview. Then, she was like an open book about the outcome of the stage, which she did win. "It was a tough, difficult final stage. I was amazed that Lotte was still there. Lotte handled the tempo changes well; she was strong. I thought she had been dropped anyway, so I wanted to beat her in the sprint. Suddenly, she was there again, which surprised me. Then panic struck for a moment, but fortunately, I won."

At full speed to the finish line.... Fulling vs. Kopecky

Vollering leaves SD Worx and expects that to have an impact in Romandie: "I hope the team is neutral"

Another mountain stage in Switzerland awaits tomorrow, with Kopecky in the lead due to previously won bonification seconds. Because of this, Saturday's winner expects it may be challenging to win the Tour of Romandy yet. After all, Vollering is leaving the team in a few months, and she fears that will affect the race. 'I don't know what will happen now,' she said.

"It's a strange situation because I'm leaving the team. I hope they are neutral about it. Lotte is ahead of me in the standings now. I don't know, we'll see tomorrow," Vollering concluded. "Then I guess they will ride for her (Kopecky, ed.) tomorrow." It was an awkward situation within the team because there already seemed to be no genuine cooperation between the two absolute top riders for the last straight race.

Symbolic? Vollering helps Kopecky into the leader's jersey, literally

Afterward came the podium ceremony, and a cameraman caught a valuable image. After her stage victory, volleying behind the scenes, she helped her teammate into the yellow jersey by neatly closing her zipper at the back. You could almost call it a symbolic transfer of power within the super team.
