EF Education-EasyPost goes all-out on the attack in the Giro: no Hugh Carthy, but stage hunters Chaves and Piccolo instead

It's official: EF Education-EasyPost hasn't waited for the Grande Partenza to announce its Giro selection. The American team opts for a plethora of attackers and no sprinter or clear-cut general classification contender!

Their press release leaves no room for doubt. "We're aiming for stage wins," it clearly states, with Esteban Chaves - now considered a seasoned veteran - already igniting excitement in cycling fans' hearts. "The Giro is cycling in its purest form," says the 34-year-old Colombian. "It's entirely different from other races. It's more romantic. I've got some special memories from it, both good and bad. That's part of it, but I have a lot of love for this race."

Stage victory is the ultimate goal for EF Education-EasyPost

"For an Italian, the Giro is truly special," adds his teammate Andrea Piccolo. "It's one of the most important races in the world, but for us, it's the most important home race. I'm very proud to be able to participate again." According to Chaves, EF Education-EasyPost is sending a squad capable of scoring in many stages. "The Giro can sometimes be difficult to control, especially when the weather is traditionally bad. In that perspective and approach lies perhaps our strength."

Both Chaves and Piccolo - as well as several others who spoke - repeatedly emphasized that it is really about that stage win. And according to Chaves, he himself also has excellent credentials in that regard. "I want to show that I'm not done yet. That I'm still here. I want to demonstrate my resilience. My form is already good, so that's a positive. Besides Chaves and Piccolo, the lineup includes in-form Simon Carr, Jefferson Cepeda, Stefan de Bod, Mikkel Honoré, debutant Georg Steinhauser, and comeback kid Michael Valgren.
