Eva van Agt: "My life is a dream, but for people who love me it was a nightmare for a while"

Eva van Agt has been speaking out on social media after her serious fall in Monday's Tour de France Femmes. The Dutch rider experienced a harsh crash in the slippery descent towards the finish line in the final stage, resulting in some unsettling images.

"'My life is a dream, but yesterday, for the people who love me, it briefly turned into a nightmare,"" Van Agt says in her message. "I apologize to everyone I scared. Unfortunately, I had to leave the second stage of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift by ambulance after a fall on the final descent,' shares the rider from women's Jumbo-Visma."

Given the circumstances of her serious fall, Van Agt can still be somewhat relieved about her medical condition. "Physically, everything is okay: I have a lung contusion, a concussion, and some stitches, but of course, I am extremely disappointed that I let the team down like this," she continued. "Thanks to all the excellent care from the team, I can leave for the Netherlands today to recover. Thank you for all your kind messages; they mean a lot to me. Due to the concussion, I'm trying to limit my screen time for a while, so I'll respond later!" she concluded her post on social media the day after the fall.

Van Agt was riding at head of race in Tour de France Femmes at time of fall

Van Agt was leading the race together with Anouska Koster at the time of the fall. In the descent, she lost control of her wheel on the slippery roads and collided with the guardrail. Koster indicated afterwards that she was "in shock," but fortunately, reports came in fairly quickly that Van Agt was conscious and that she was doing okay under the circumstances with the rider from the Netherlands.
