In recent weeks, there has been a lot of news about Wout van Aert, and we're glad to see that. The all-rounder from Belgium, who we missed a lot during the 2024 season, was not at the top level or completely absent. In the Vuelta, so during the fall, he seemed to really regain his top shape for the first time, with three excellent stage wins until the seventeenth stage, during which it all went wrong.
He suffered another bad crash and spent minutes sitting in the car on the side. He was in too much pain to continue cycling and had too much damage to stay in the race. In the end, everything in his knee was broken. We are now two and a half months down the road. Van Aert is often running again, with his partner Sarah De Bie, and cycling considerable distances again, heading toward 2025.

Wout van Aert shares picture of knee recovery: after workouts in special brace

Van Aert has now shared a glimpse of those workouts on his Instagram. The intensity and duration are increased considerably, as evidenced by the more than 150-kilometer loop through the well-known hinterland of Dénia and Calpe. Wrapped up in five and a half hours, it is suitable for an average of thirty kilometers per hour. "Avoided doing the dishes," he jokingly captioned it on Strava, for the amount of time he spent on the workout.
After that, Van Aert must rest. He was lying down with a brace around his knee, attached to a cord. "Post-training recovery," we see written in the photo. So, the knee is still interfering with Van Aert's schedule, which is recovering slowly from the crash in the Vuelta in September. So, despite all the activity we've seen in recent weeks and days, the Belgian superstar is taking good care of himself!
