A British storm, by the lake near Zurich. Cat Ferguson won the junior world title with crushing superiority. The 18-year-old time trial specialist finished more than half a minute faster than the rest, beating Slovak all-rounder Viktoria Chladonova, among others. Afterward, she was relieved and happy, partly because last year in her own country, she narrowly missed a junior world title in the road race.
Afterward, she gave a flash interview in front of the UCI camera. There, she also talked about the extra-sweet taste of victory after last year's setback in Glasgow. "It's great finally having that title, especially after last year's disappointment. It makes that jersey extra beautiful. There was such a long process. The people around me helped me perfectly, and I am grateful to them," she referred to her coach and family.
Unlike many, Ferguson likes the earpiece: "Gives extra strength"
Ferguson was beyond remarkable throughout the time trial. For that, she emphasizes one distinctive aspect: the earpiece. Not every cyclist is a fan of that, especially during a time trial. Ferguson is. "It helps me a lot that there were instructions from the coach. Someone is there, telling me how things are going and what I can do. I continued to try to focus on my attitude and keep it up until the end."
"It was hard to keep producing the watts to the end, but I managed. Plus, having my family there at the finish is super special." Ferguson is making progress and joining Movistar for longer. "I'm looking forward to racing with those ladies; they are very welcoming, and that's nice for the future," said the talented cyclist on the time trial.
