Will Mathieu van der Poel, Wout van Aert and Tom Pidcock compete in cyclo-cross this winter? And if they do, when? This is the big question gripping the cyclo-cross world. The UCI has stirred up excitement, hinting through its official channels that "the big guns" are gearing up to start soon.

Right now, only Van Aert's participation in cyclo-cross this winter seems certain. The Belgian rider from Visma | Lease a Bike will first complete a road training camp but is expected to shift to cyclo-cross by the end of December. The situation is less clear for Van der Poel and Pidcock. The Alpecin-Deceuninck world champion has not disclosed any plans, and Pidcock said after his last road race that he’s still considering whether cyclo-cross fits into his winter schedule.

A new video from the UCI could be a promising sign that the trio will indeed hit the cyclo-cross circuit. The World Cup kicks off on November 24 in Antwerp, Belgium, later than ever. This timing is designed to ensure December sees the top riders facing off in the biggest competitions. Early December will feature races in Dublin and Sardinia. A little too soon for these top-tier racers?

"Winter is coming, and so are the big guns," the UCI posted on X. We can’t wait!
