Juan Sebastián Molano has fallen victim to a burglary at his home in La Trinidad, Colombia. Fortunately, the Colombian rider for UAE Team Emirates-XRG was not home at the time, nor was his brother Julian, with whom he shares the house. Both were in Dubai preparing for the new season. The total value of the stolen items amounts to thousands of euros.

According to the Colombian newspaper El Tiempo, multiple thieves specifically targeted the house. They broke into the property when no one was home. Family members of the Molano brothers reported that a Colnago road bike and two Specialized mountain bikes were stolen. In addition to the bikes, household appliances, cycling jerseys, and various other accessories were also taken. Due to the high value of the bikes, the family is hopeful to recover them.

The targeting of Colombian cyclists in burglaries is not a new phenomenon. Last year, Mauricio Zapata, a 20-year-old rider for the continental team Petrolike, also fell victim to theft under similar circumstances while he was away. Meanwhile, Colombian cycling is facing another setback: funding cuts by the Colombian government have resulted in the cancellation of the Tour of Colombia.

Molano's sole win in 2024: Stage two of the Cro Race.

After a great 2023, 2024 was a quieter year for Molano

For UAE Team Emirates, 2024 was an extraordinary year, with the team achieving a record-breaking 81 victories. However, Molano’s contribution was more modest than he had hoped, securing only one win in the second stage of the Cro Race. He participated in just one Grand Tour, the Giro d’Italia, where he only managed three top-10 finishes. As the Colombian sprinter looks to regain his form from the previous year, the burglary and theft of his bikes are sure to be a disruptive factor in his (mental) preparation.
