With the conclusion of the Tour of Guangxi, the professional cycling season of 2023 has truly come to an end. In China, the year was wrapped up in style with a double win for Jumbo-Visma: sprinter Olav Kooij claimed the final stage, while general classification rider Milan Vader secured the win in the overall classification.
This brought Jumbo-Visma's win total for the season to 69, as team manager Richard Plugge noted on X. "What an end to the season, wow! 69 wins for our Jumbo-Visma team. I am very, very proud of everyone involved, thank you," said the CEO of the team that clinched the Giro, Tour, and Vuelta this year.
Not just in quantity but also in quality, Jumbo-Visma stood out. Besides the three Grand Tours, the team also claimed the general classification in WorldTour races like Tirreno-Adriatico, Tour of Catalonia, Tour of the Basque Country, Critérium du Dauphiné, and of course, the Tour of Guangxi. They also triumphed in one-day races like Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, Dwars door Vlaanderen, E3 Saxo Classic, and Gent-Wevelgem.
Second place on the list for the most wins this season goes to UAE-Team Emirates, crossing the line first 57 times. They clinched major one-day races like the Tour of Flanders, Tour of Lombardy, La Flèche Wallonne, Amstel Gold Race and GP Montréal, as well as stage races such as Paris-Nice, Tour Down Under, Renewi Tour, and the Tour of Romandie. Soudal Quick-Step completes the podium with 55 victories.
INEOS Grenadiers ranks fourth with 36 wins in total. The British multi-million-dollar team clinched Strade Bianche with Tom Pidcock. Alpecin-Deceuninck, with Mathieu van der Poel, secured 35 wins, which included several Monuments and numerous stages in Grand Tours, signifying their high-quality victories.
Towards the bottom, we primarily see the French teams, though DSM-Firmenich is also noticeable with "only" eleven wins. One team secured fewer than ten wins in 2023: AG2R Citroën Team.
Jasper Philipsen secured the title of 'Victory King 2023' last week in the Tour of Turkey, with 19 wins in total. Tadej Pogacar had 17, with Primoz Roglic and Jonas Vingegaard each at 15. Remco Evenepoel and Olav Kooij both won 13 times in 2023.
