Molano adds one more in fierce sprint in CRO Race and pushes UAE wins to staggering 76 in 2024

J Juan Sebastián Molano won the second stage in the CRO Race. The Colombian of UAE Team Emirates defeated Giovanni Lonardi of Polti Kometa with a fierce sprint.

After Alexander Kristoff's sprint victory on day one, the Norwegian of Uno-X departed in the leader's jersey on Wednesday for a stage of just 115 kilometers from Biograd na Moru to Novalja. A stage with two climbs in it, but one that shouldn't deter the fast men, right?

The day's breakaway was for the lesser riders, with Axel van der Tuuk of Metec-SOLARWATT p/b Mantel as the best classified, six seconds behind Kristoff in the GC. He had four guys with him, and together, they got a reasonable gap from the peloton. There, it was quiet for a long time, but unfortunately, due to a crash, we had to say goodbye to Domen Novak of UAE Team Emirates.

INEOS and UAE keep it tight for the sprint

It caused nervousness, so we had everything back together after the day's first climb (to Jovići). When the road was flat again, two new men attacked with Jakub Kaczmarek (Mazowsze Serce Polski) and Casper van der Woude (Metec-SOLARWATT p/b Mantel). They gained a minute or so away towards the final forty kilometers. On the second and final climb to Pag, however, INEOS Grenadiers closed it.

Many riders tried in a challenging finale, but another sprint could not be avoided. Bahrain Victorious, UAE Team Emirates, and Team dsm-firmenich PostNL positioned themselves prominently at the front, and UAE did so best. Molano was able to ignite his legs and stay ahead of Lonardi.
