One minute you're responsible for Evenepoel and Van Aert, and the next you're (still) without a job: "I am open to everything"

Sven Vanthourenhout still has not found a new job nearly two months after his official departure from the Belgian Cycling Federation. After much speculation was raised around him, the Belgian announced this through his official channels.
"Because many are asking themselves the question and asking me the question: No, my future is not determined yet! My conversations were interesting here and there, but they did not result in an agreement to sign. Either from their side or from mine," Vanthourenhout analyzed his last weeks.
"Contrary to what has been suggested here and there," the coach proceeds to write, indicating that he has seen all the stories about a new job in the WorldTour coming along. He last spoke about his future in early October. He was negotiating then with Soudal-Quick Step and UAE Team Emirates, but The Wolfpack had already decided against Vanthourenhout, and UAE was dismissed as "too complicated."

Sven Vanthourenhout enjoyed being home for a while

So, we have to be patient for a while longer for the man who was the national coach from 2017 to 2024. In recent years, he was in charge of big stars like Remco Evenepoel and Wout van Aert, and Tim Merlier presented him with another European title at the European Championships. After stepping down from the Belgian federation, Vanthourenhout did not sit still. "I have enjoyed the last few weeks being at home for once, being able to clear my head and watch cyclo-cross as a normal sports enthusiast."
Staying unemployed for an extended period, however, is not an option. "Now it's time to look out for what's next. There are possibilities, I have opportunities, and I am open to everything inside and outside the sport. I am looking forward to the future!"
