Pogacar triumphs on the wall of Huy: "A beautiful climb but as a cyclist you don't like it so much"

And the Slovenian rider was understandably enthusiastic about this in the flash interview. "It's a really great feeling to win here again," said Pogacar, wearing his thick, somewhat oversized winter jacket. "It was a tough finish, beautiful climb, but as a cyclist, you don't like it so much."

The 26-year-old was referring to the steepness of the wall of Huy. With sections exceeding 12%, it comes down to punching power after more than 200 kilometers. Pogacar once again showed that he is in good shape. However, the steepness was not the only difficult factor to contend with.

The weather was terrible in Wallonia. "The weather wasn't the best," concluded the winner before going to the podium. "Really tough race. So it means a lot to me that I could win here."

He praised his teammates in particular. "We rode well together as a team today. We stuck to the plan, but it was a hard race. The guys had super good legs," he added.

Pogacar's big goal this spring is Liège-Bastogne-Liège. He is already looking forward to it shortly after the finish. "On Sunday, we will be racing with almost the same team. Then we can also ride a good race and maybe even win." In the Amstel Gold Race, one of Pogacar's helpers, Jhonatan Narváez, had to drop out after a crash. He will not be participating in La Doyenne. Belgian Florian Vermeersch will be joining Pogacar's team.
