After a twenty-year absence, it's time for another Tour of the Netherlands this week, although in 2025 it is known as the Tour of Holland. In just six days, we'll be seeing several new formats! IDLProCycling.com will once again provide you with a detailed preview!
The Tour of the Netherlands officially disappeared from the calendar in 2004, although we did, of course, have the Eneco/BinckBanck/Saxo Bank/Renewi Tour for many years, which was held (in part) in the Netherlands. However, TIG, together with various other stakeholders, put its weight behind getting a ‘real’ Dutch tour on the calendar, and it succeeded.
Finding a unique spot on an already packed cycling calendar was a challenge, which is why they settled on October, at the very end of the cycling year. Through four road stages and two time trials, a successor will be sought for Erik Dekker, who in 2004 was still the last rider to dominate the Tour of the Netherlands.

Stage 1, Wednesday, Oct. 15: Dordrecht - Dordrecht (118.5 km)

holland-2
Dordrecht has the pleasure of hosting the start and finish of the first stage of the Tour of Holland. After two so-called Red Bull kilometers along the way—where 3, 2, and 1 bonus seconds can be earned—we will likely see a sprint after 118.5 kilometers.
Winner
Tim Merlier (Soudal Quick-Step)

holland-3
We already had a time trial on day one, but two days later, the riders will have another chance to compete individually. In Etten-Leur, in the west of Brabant, a 14.8-kilometer time trial is on the program.

Stage 3, Friday, Oct. 17: Sittard - Watersley (149.3 km)

holland-5
A Tour of Holland without a stage through Limburg is, of course, not a Tour of Holland. And so, on day three, the riders will visit the southernmost province of our country, starting at the Tom Dumoulin Bike Park in Sittard and finishing on the uphill asphalt in Watersley. Along the way, they will have to conquer the Keuteberg, Cauberg, Gulperberg, and so on!

Stage 4, Saturday, Oct. 18: Emmen - Col du VAM (158.3 km)

holland-vam
From Friday to Saturday, the riders will venture from South Limburg to Drenthe. The fifth stage starts in Emmen and finishes on the well-known VAM-Berg, where we have seen many championships in recent years. And if there is one thing we can be sure of, it is that it will be a race!
Winner
Timo de Jong (VolkerWessels)

Stage 5, Sunday, Oct. 19: Arnhem - Arnhem (155.0 km)

holland-arnhem
The organizers of the Tour of Holland have clearly drawn motivation from the recent Dutch Championships, because in addition to Watersley and the VAM-berg, Arnhem will be central to the final stage. New to the 2024 Dutch Championships is the presence of gravel in the circuit, which adds extra cachet to the final stage of the race.
Winner
Danny van Poppel (Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe)
