Once the World Championships are over, there's little time to recover. The Vuelta a España is right around the corner, and the Burgos race is traditionally where the last fine-tuning of the legs is done. At IDLProCycling.com, we preview the five-day stage race across Spain.

On day one, we finish for a change not at the castle on a cobblestone hill, so a leader's jersey awaits the explosive men who have great timing. In the finale, the road does still rise a little bit, so starting too early could prove to be deadly.

Since we will also face this in the Vuelta a España, they have organized a team time trial in Burgos as well. At 13.1 kilometers, it's a bit shorter than the opening time trial in Barcelona on August 26. The difficulty level with some nasty uphill sections is also a bit higher.

The queen stage is already upon us on day three. No uphill finish, but there's Picón Blanco, along with five other categorized climbs. The riders preparing for the Vuelta can test themselves here, as can those aiming for a strong overall classification.

Uphill finish, although the stretches towards the finish line in Pradoluego are not too difficult. Perhaps this stage even suits the attackers, though Roglic may want to test his power at the finish line with his explosive legs.

The final day in Burgos promises excitement, with a steep final climb as the climax of the week. With seven kilometers at an average of 8.7 percent, the road to Lagunas de Neila is tough. An ideal test for the Vuelta, shall we say!

Please note that the list of participants is not yet finalized.
With this route, including a team time trial, we would be crazy not to start with Primoz Roglic. The Slovenian from Jumbo-Visma hasn't raced since the Giro d'Italia and has completely focused on part two of the season. He is bound to be in good shape, and if so, the competition can brace themselves.
For overall victory, you need a strong team, so we also end up with UAE Team Emirates. Adam Yates is coming from the Tour de France to start, but we're also curious about the level of, for example, Jay Vine. Not much can be said in advance about both, as one has just finished his grand tour and the other is on his way to his grand tour.
At BORA-hansgrohe, we already have a good idea about Aleksandr Vlasov, who finished third in the Clasica San Sebastián and should have gained a few percentages by now. Lennard Kämna is also an interesting name among the Germans, although the question is whether the climber can keep up with, for example, Roglic. On his very best days, the German is a dangerous contender
Scrolling further through the list, only EF Education-EasyPost and perhaps Bahrain Victorious remain in terms of team time trial skills. At EF, we look with interest at potential Vuelta leader Hugh Carthy, while at Bahrain, Damiano Caruso and Santiago Buitrago are the two potential classification riders on paper. Einer Rubio is a strong climber at Movistar, but how much time will he lose against the clock?
In the guide for the Vuelta a Burgos, Eurosport, Proximus, and L'Equipe are listed, but a search on the websites of these channels does not yet give the green light for live broadcasts.
