Primoz Roglic was racing in Paris-Nice this week, but BORA-hansgrohe was also making its mark at the Tirreno-Adriatico. Jai Hindley was heading towards the final podium, and Lennard Kämna secured a solid top ten finish. The two are expected to be by Roglic's side this summer, who has already left a significant imprint on his new team. IDLProCycling.com discussed this with the two gentlemen, who spent the winter with Roglic.
Hindley's standout performance in the critical Tirreno stages should come as no surprise, given his victorious Giro d'Italia campaign in 2022 and a solid fifth place in this year's Tour of Valencia, signaling his lofty ambitions. "My winter training wasn’t much different from previous years. I spent time in Australia, enjoying a month with my family and benefiting from the excellent training conditions there. It was fantastic. The level of competition was already intense in Valencia, a trend across all races in 2024. My form was decent, though not exceptional. The training block in Tenerife was particularly productive, setting me up for the upcoming racing season. My form was already promising leading up to Valencia, but I made some crucial gains in Tenerife."
This preparation paid off when he managed to keep pace with Juan Ayuso in the mountain stages, only falling behind Jonas Vingegaard. Clearly, his excellent form is the result of a fruitful winter. With Roglic now leading BORA-hansgrohe, the team laid a strong foundation during their high-altitude training. "Roglic immediately made a significant impact on the team. Everyone has noticed improvements and a rise in overall performance. His arrival has been incredibly positive, and hopefully, the team can continue to build on this momentum. We've already celebrated victories in Australia with Sam Welsford and in the Algarve with Dani Felipe Martinez."

"Mentality' and 'dedication" in Roglic and BORA

Kämna also soared in the Tirreno, delivering an aggressive performance at the Strade Bianche, though he finished twentieth. "It was a pity about the Strade Bianche; I was out of gas by the end," he shares. However, the German climbed to eighth place in the general classification during the final mountain stage on Saturday. Could this be a sign of what's to come at the Giro d'Italia, where Kämna will be the team leader? "I think my form is good. I'm looking forward to getting into the racing rhythm. I'm definitely aiming for a strong general classification at the Giro, particularly alongside Daniel Felipe Martinez."
Having Roglic as a teammate, Kämna, who in 2023 targeted a general classification for the first time and finished ninth in the Giro, has had a model to learn from in leading a Grand Tour. "Everyone is extremely motivated to help realize his dream of winning the Tour de France. The entire team is behind him, and the riders included are all eager to be in top condition. I see a lot of dedication in him." Hindley agrees, "Of course, I can learn from him, even if it's just the little things. Small tips, or his mentality and how he carries himself – you pick up on that. He's a world-class rider, consistently over a long period. Having such a rider around, you can learn something new every day. It's going to be great doing the Tour together. It’s going to be a cool team to be a part of, and I'd love to be there."
