Primoz Roglic suffered a severe crash once again in the twelfth stage of the Tour de France. The Slovenian rider from Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe crashed hard over Alexey Lutsenko (Astana Qazaqstan Team) about ten kilometers from the finish, injuring his shoulder.
Lutsenko scraped a median and then crashed hard into the peloton, leaving Roglic with no way to avoid him. The GC contender collided with the Kazakh rider and landed heavily on his shoulder. Although Roglic got back on his bike with the help of his teammates, he made no attempt to rejoin the peloton.
At the finish, he lost over two minutes, dropping from fourth to sixth in the GC. After crossing the finish line, Roglic went straight to a local hospital for further examinations. "Primoz showered and then went to the doctor to have his wounds cleaned. We need to find out his medical status. Everyone is very disappointed, but right now, Primoz's well-being is our priority," said team leader Rolf Aldag after the stage at the team bus.

Red Bull-BORA Hansgrohe hopes Roglic has no fractures

The German does not want to think about the impact of the crash on Roglic's overall standings. "All the work, all those training sessions... We hope it hasn't been for nothing and that he can continue. We didn't see the crash, but it happened. The consequences are enormous, but the time loss is completely irrelevant. What matters now is Primoz's condition."
Ralph Denk also spoke a little later on Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe's podcast. "We were well-positioned, but Primoz still hit the asphalt. We can't say much about his injuries yet, although the doctor initially ruled out fractures. However, as we saw with Aleksandr Vlasov, that doesn't mean much," referring to Vlasov's broken ankle earlier in this Tour. Whether Roglic can continue is a big question mark. "We will know more on Friday morning, but the podium is out of reach. We have to wait and see if he can continue; he will be battered regardless."
