Several countries have been forced to make changes for next Sunday's cycling World Championship. Richard Carapaz was one of the outsiders who dropped out this week, but now Slovenia and Denmark also have to change their selections for the elite men's road race.
The change for the Slovenians will be hurt, as it concerns Matej Mohoric, who cannot participate. The Bahrain Victorious rider fell during a recon of a gravel race in Girona last week and has not recovered sufficiently. He needed stitches on his palm after the crash and cannot be on the bike without pain, national coach Uros Murn told Slovenian media.
Thus, Tadej Pogacar loses one of his most important domestiques for Sunday, as Mohoric has already proven his excellence. Once a race is over two hundred kilometers, the star rider often comes out on top in tough classics and transition stages. With his technical qualities, he would be important in positioning at the crucial points.
With Matic Zumer, an unknown 26-year-old rider from Sava Kranj Cycling, a replacement for Mohoric has been summoned, which in itself is remarkable. Indeed, the Slovenians originally had only seven riders listed, while - with their second place in the country ranking - they had eight starting spots. Adding Zumer now brings that number back to seven.

Denmark saw Andreas Kron of Lotto-Dstny drop out, not sufficiently recovered from a crash at the Vuelta a España. Kasper Asgreen, having already returned home after his sixth-place finish in the time trial, will take his place in the selection around Mattias Skjelmose and Mads Pedersen. Skjelmose himself also dropped out of the Tour of Luxembourg but has recovered sufficiently.
