The footage circulating online this past weekend of Urán’s farewell speaks volumes. Fans lined up in thick rows waiting for an autograph, while the photo of the participants in the final Giro di Rigo is perhaps even more impressive. Urán gained his popularity primarily through his impressive life story. As a child, he grew up in extreme poverty and witnessed the murder of his father on the street. He survived by selling lottery tickets on the streets and eventually found his salvation in cycling. His positive attitude and smile made him a highly beloved rider both nationally and internationally.
