Florian Stork has written the Trofeo Serra Tramuntana to his name. After wins for Jan Christen in the Trofeo Calvià (Wednesday) and Marijn van den Berg in the Trofeo Ses Salines (Thursday), the third day of the Challenge Mallorca on Friday was a success for Stork, who took his second win of the season for Tudor.

The 151.3-kilometer race went from Lluc to Selva, with three second-category climbs along the way but a relatively "Spanish flat" finish. After 400 meters at 9.3 percent, the finish was uphill. In other words, it was something for the punchers and, of course, attackers hoping to outsmart the peloton.

With a rainy start, the neutralization lasted a bit longer until the organization was sure it could send the riders off safely. From there, it was immediately full speed ahead, with the wind playing a role. UAE Team Emirates-XRG, EF Education-EasyPost, and Tudor were up front pulling echelons, leading to an initial peloton of sixty.

That all came back together, along with attack attempts that were then sparked. As such, we went into the first climb of the day, the Coll de Sa Batalla, with no leading group. Tudor set the pace here, serving Marc Hirschi. Also, over the Coll de Puig Major, the Swiss team accelerated.

Late attack from Stork

As a result, we got a fast race in soaking wet conditions. UAE and Tudor battled for the first place on the descent of the Coll de Puig Major, and Hirschi even managed to get away on the descent. On the day's third and final climb, António Morgado made a serious gap on behalf of UAE. Astana's Diego Ulissi joined the Portuguese and went to the top together.

Christen crashed on behalf of UAE in the downhill, luckily without serious consequences. Hirschi, together with Hugo de la Calle (Burgos Burpellet BH)and Henri Vandenabeele (Lotto), tried to get to Morgado, who had dropped Ulissi in the meantime. Markus Hoelgaard of Uno-X was also with them. However, the lone leader's chances diminished when the chasing group grew in size, entering the final 20 kilometers.

Morgado was caught with ten kilometers to go, leaving us suddenly with a solid group that seemed to be battling for the win on the finish hill. Stork tried to prevent that on behalf of Tudor with a late attack, and the German rider succeeded. With Hirschi in the group behind, it was up to the others, knowing that if they merged, Hirschi could still finish it himself. That was not necessary, as Stork crossed the finish line solo.
