Van der Poel adds extra race to World Cup preparation: world champion competes in Tour of Luxembourg

On Monday morning, a curious message appeared online: Mathieu van der Poel will participate in the Tour of Luxembourg (the Skoda Tour of Luxembourg), which will be held from Wednesday, September 18, to Sunday, September 22. One week later, the World Cycling Championships are on the calendar in Zurich, where Van der Poel will try to defend his title.

A video appeared on the X-account of the Luxembourg stage race in which the 29-year-old Dutchman announced that he would participate. "Hello, everyone! I am happy to tell you that I will participate in the Tour of Luxembourg this year. I will ride there for the first time, and hopefully, I will see you all there!"

For Van der Poel, the Luxembourg race will not be his first race after the Olympic road race in Paris. After all, the man from Kapellen will first be at the start (as top favorite) of the Renewi Tour, which will be held from Wednesday, August 28 to Sunday, September 1.
