With December just around the corner, preparations for the new road cycling season are slowly ramping up. Teams are starting to call their riders back to work, but there’s still time for some late-November downtime. Mathieu van der Poel and Remco Evenepoel are no exception. Van der Poel has kept a low profile in the media since wrapping up his road season, though he’s still generating plenty of buzz. His cyclo-cross calendar has been the talk of the town for weeks, with an announcement expected soon from Alpecin-Deceuninck. Of course, that all depends on Van der Poel’s preferences and priorities.
In the meantime, he’s enjoying his usual training base in sunny Spain, logging miles with Freddy Ovett and a few cycling buddies. He’s also making time for his second passion: golf. On Tuesday, Van der Poel hit the course in Benidorm with Belgian pro golfer Alan de Bondt, who shared on social media how impressed he was by the
Dutchman’s swing.

Evenepoel shows off on the beach
While Van der Poel was teeing off in Spain, Remco Evenepoel was spotted at the Belgian coast, fully kitted out and taking on the wind. He headed to the North Sea beach with Belgian champion Tim Merlier — who’s set to defend his title in less than a month — along with teammates Yves Lampaert, Bert Van Lerberghe and Lidl-Trek rider Tim Declercq.
Lampaert
captured a video for social media, showing Evenepoel grinning widely as he battled against the wind. Both Evenepoel and Merlier had recently returned from a trip to the US, where they visited team sponsor Specialized.
