Vingegaard and Van Aert show strong progress, "Vingegaard will likely miss the Vuelta"

The cycling world is closely monitoring the developments surrounding the three heavyweights of Visma | Lease a Bike. Will Christophe Laporte, and especially Jonas Vingegaard and Wout van Aert, make it to the Tour de France? It seems more and more likely. Earlier, coaches mentioned that there's just over a 50-50 chance the gentlemen will participate in the Tour, and Belgian news outlet HLN has received indications that substantial progress is being made in Tignes.

The progress notably involves Vingegaard significantly increasing the mileage on his time trial training—an intensive activity. This suggests a more serious approach to training than before, which focused more on duration and substance. Meanwhile, Wout van Aert posted a promising Strava activity, which Christophe Laporte also attended. This training covered almost 200 kilometers and nearly five thousand meters of elevation. As Van Aert and Laporte tackled a grueling training session that bodes well for their Tour preparations, Vingegaard has been making noteworthy progress too. Visma | Lease a Bike has been clear in their official statements: They will only field Vingegaard if he can compete for the overall victory.. Therefore, the final verdict from their Tignes training block is still pending, but the signals are decidedly strong.

Meanwhile, HLN also reports that the Vuelta will likely not be an option for Vingegaard. Originally, having finished second last year, he was also slated to compete in that race. The Belgian newspaper cites 'family' circumstances, without providing further details.
