Vingegaard skilfully completes grueling work of Kelderman (and other killer bees): "Cold, but successful"

It was only his first road race of the year, but he was immediately on point: we are talking about Jonas Vingegaard, the Danish superstar riding for Visma | Lease a Bike. In the second stage of the O Gran Camiño, the two-time Tour de France winner was unmatched, launching his attack on the slopes of the Alto San Pedro de Licora - the final climb of the day - and eventually crossing the finish line solo. During the flash interview, Vingegaard looked back on his performance with clear satisfaction.

"This is a tremendously nice victory," the 27-year-old victor began his account. "I am very happy with how it went. The team delivered great work. That was really awesome of them. I would like to thank them. It's nice to see that effort rewarded in this way," he says, referring to the grueling work of, for example, Wilco Kelderman. "All in all, it was a cold, but successful day for us."

Vingegaard strings together stage wins in O Gran Camiño

For Vingegaard, the O Gran Camiño is thus his first race of the year, something he is very pleased about. "It's a beautiful race. Also, this victory is my fourth stage win in the two times I participated in this race, so that's nice. I am really looking forward to the upcoming stages."

The Spanish 2.1 race - which, by the way, was won by Vingegaard last year - will continue on Saturday with a hilly stage towards Castelo de Ribadavia. The chances are thus very small that Vingegaard will lose his leader's jersey.
