Visma | Lease a Bike failed to achieve a notable result with its young riders in the first of three consecutive French one-day races on Friday. Cian Uijtdebroeks was the best rider of the Dutch team in the Classic Grand Besançon, finishing in 32nd place. Top talent Jørgen Nordhagen had no chance to finish high in the rankings after a flat tire on the final climb. Despite the lack of results, Visma | Lease made its presence felt along the way. Loe van Belle was part of the early breakaway. The Dutchman was eventually caught by the peloton fifteen kilometers from the finish. Visma | Lease a Bike then brought Uijtdebroeks and Nordhagen into position. However, circumstances prevented them from competing with the best.
Nordhagen's flat tire at a crucial moment was particularly unfortunate. “Jørgen felt incredibly strong today, but at the most unfortunate moment on the final climb, he suffered a puncture. That's of course very unfortunate," said sports director Marc Reef, reflecting on the day on the
team website. The promising Norwegian eventually crossed the finish line in 52nd place, more than five minutes behind.

Nordhagen could not compete for a good result due to a flat tire
"Because of Loe's strong day, we were constantly riding at ease as a team in the peloton behind," Reef continued. "We executed the established plan perfectly and started the final climb in perfect position, but unfortunately couldn't join the battle for the victory. All in all, a good start as a team here in France, only a result is missing. Tomorrow we will get a new chance," Reef said, ahead of the Tour du Jura.
It was no big surprise that Uijtdebroeks couldn't keep up with the best. The Belgian climber has been dealing with physical issues for a while, which makes it hard for him to give it his all when it counts. Uijtdebroeks recently posted a hopeful update on social media and made his comeback on Friday. Uijtdebroeks will also be at the start of the Tour du Jura and the Tour du Doubs on Saturday and Sunday.
