Vollering and Vos use official World Championship scouting, who grabbed the KOMs on crucial strips?

Demi Vollering and Marianne Vos took Wednesday morning to scout the World Championship course in and around Zurich. This was not an easy feat, as there were only two opportunities to complete the entire lap. The Dutch men are not yet in Switzerland and will use the opportunity to check out the lap on Friday.

The World Cycling Championships in Zurich is for elite riders, but para-cycling also plays a prominent role in the schedule. Wednesday marked the first road races in that category, which will be spread out through Sunday for the rest. Add in the juniors, U23, and elite women, leaving you with few opportunities to preview the course.

Wednesday morning between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. was the first of those, Friday between 12:15 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. followed by the second. Those times should be used to see the entire 27-kilometer lap. Belgian ladies Lotte Kopecky and Julie De Wilde chose to take the lap as early as Monday; their Dutch competitors Vollering and Vos were spotted in downtown Zurich Wednesday morning, though.

Vollering lives about a 45-minute drive in Meggen, so it's not such a problem for her. Vos spent a lot of time in Andorra in recent weeks, riding there with Robert Gesink, among others, but she also opted for an early touchdown in Zurich to see the course with her own eyes. Riejanne Markus was there as the third of the Dutch women. Of course, the Dutch juniors and U23s, who race on Thursday and Friday, respectively, also did the recon on Wednesday.

O'Connor and Pellizzari performed well on World Championship course

Looking at the Strava performances, U23 World Time Trial Champion Ivan Romeo already showed excellent form during his recon. The Spaniard worked the entire lap quickly, while the KOM on the Zurichbergstrasse - the most challenging climb in the round - is for Ben O'Connor from Wednesday. In turn, the segment on Witikon is destined for Giulio Pellizzari.
