"Can the celebration be quick? I have to catch my flight": Vollering has to hurry towards NC after her victory in Switzerland

Demi Vollering finished the Tour of Switzerland in style. The versatile rider from SD Worx-Protime had already won the first two stages, showed her strength on Monday (finishing sixth), and on Tuesday impressively claimed the final stage. As a result, the Dutch champion can head towards her upcoming goals with a lot of confidence.

"I have indeed won three of the four stages," Vollering began in the flash interview. "Honestly, I didn't see that coming. Especially in this last stage, I didn't expect it," she said, referring to her win in the sprint of an elite group. "It was really great to sprint for the victory again. It had been a while, but it feels really good. I quite enjoy it."

After Switzerland, NC, the Olympics, the Tour de France Femmes, and WC follow for Vollering

"It was a great competition with the other ladies," continued the South Holland native (who actually resides in Switzerland) with a broad smile. "It's very nice to also win the overall classification, as this is somewhat of a home race for me. The stages were very enjoyable, and this overall victory means a lot to me. In the Tour de France Femmes, we will also face many climbing stages, so it's great to have worked on that feeling here. Winning climbing races before your major goals is always good."

According to Vollering, she was able to take real risks in the final stage, in which she ultimately relegated Elisa Longo Borghini (Lidl-Trek) to second place. "It wasn't up to me to set the pace. It was racing from a comfortable position. Lidl-Trek set the pace, but I'm glad that the ladies from our team managed to come back. They were there for me continuously afterward. I am immensely grateful to them. They kept pushing until the end."

Vollering also briefly discussed her upcoming races (excluding the National Championships). "The Tour is my main goal for the year, but before that, we also have the Olympics. That is always very special. After the Tour, there is also the World Championships, which is being held in Switzerland this year. So, of course, I'm really looking forward to that as well." The Dutch rider didn't have much more time to say anything in the interview, as she mentioned she needed to hurry to the airport. On Wednesday, June 19th, she will be riding in the National Time Trial Championships in Steenbergen, West Brabant. "I just hope I make my flight in time!" she said with a laugh. IDLProCycling.com recently also spoke with Vollering about her logistical puzzle leading up to the national championship.
