Visma | Lease a Bike and Simon Yates turned the Giro d'Italia on its head in the fantastic twentieth stage. The attack on the Colle delle Finestre, and the help provided by Wout van Aert, was executed to perfection. A glimpse behind the scenes in the team car shows the mood at the moment of truth, where the phenomenal van Aert also played a leading role.
On the Finestre, everyone in the car remained relatively calm. Sports director Marc Reef spoke calmly to his leader. "1 minute 30 the gap now, so they are also committing," he said in a video released by Velon. "You just continue, keep the pace." The British climber was understandably a little less calm. "Are they still together?" he asked. After confirmation, van Aert got the signal: "Wout, Simon is now over the top."
The 30-year-old Belgian waited for his lead rider and then set a relentless pace, smashing records. "You're the game changer," his Dutch team leader rightly told him. "We're fighting for pink. We keep it up, Wout. I know it is hard, but we're fighting for the victory." Once he had given everything he had, the all-rounder was cheered on from the car. A video by Adam Blythe, who followed the race on a motorbike, shows how exhausted he was.

Reef: "Today, the Finestre was yours"

Then, it was up to Yates, who did not give up his lead. He rode phenomenally to victory in the Giro. "What a hero. You're alone now; come on, we go. Over five minutes." Once at the finish, Reef had wonderful words for his lead rider. "Today, the Finestre was yours. You're going to win the Giro! Enjoy this; what a story you're writing here. 2018 to now. You're going to win this Giro!" Goosebumps.
