Victor Campenaerts will be out of action for the next few weeks. The Belgian rider from Visma | Lease a Bike suffered a small fracture in his shoulder after a crash on Stage 2 of the Tour of the Basque Country. As a result, he will miss his upcoming spring races.
Visma | Lease a Bike announced via their official channels that Campenaerts will definitely not be taking part in the Amstel Gold Race and Liège-Bastogne-Liège, both of which were on his schedule. “Unfortunately, I won’t be able to race the classics that were planned for me. The next few weeks will be all about recovery. On the doctor’s advice, I’m not allowed to ride outdoors, so I’ll be limited to indoor training,” he explained.
It’s not the first time the Killer Bees have seen a rider sidelined this year. After a 2024 full of crashes and misfortune, this season has already seen Dylan van Baarle (broken collarbone in Australia) and Jonas Vingegaard (hand injury in Catalonia) go down. Niklas Behrens and Olav Kooij have also already suffered broken collarbones.

Oddly enough, Campenaerts did finish Stage 2 of the Tour of the Basque Country, but (understandably) did not start the next day. The 33-year-old time trial specialist rejoined the team this past winter after transferring from Lotto, returning to familiar ground. Campenaerts previously rode for Visma | Lease a Bike in 2016 and 2017 and had already featured in several major races this year. He took part in Opening Weekend, supported Matteo Jorgenson in his overall victory at Paris-Nice, and raced Milan-San Remo.
After Classic Brugge-De Panne and Gent-Wevelgem, Campi headed to the Basque Country, where he was already disappointed on Day 1 with a seventh place in the opening time trial. His upcoming races have now been scrapped, with the Critérium du Dauphiné and Tour de France still listed later on his calendar. Visma | Lease a Bike says it’s currently unclear when Campenaerts will be able to return to racing.
