Nieuwenhuis spent his childhood on a BMX bike, which helped him win Val di Sole: "I have the technique for this cyclo-cross course"

The first victory in the World Cup is in for Joris Nieuwenhuis. The Dutch cyclo-cross rider from Baloise-Trek Lions did so in a dominating manner, by leading from start to finish. The first turn proved to be very crucial.

But was it really that easy for the man from Achterhoek? "My style is a bit like that on television: it always seems easier than it is in reality," the winner laughs in the flash interview. "But I also have to suffer. I had to stay focused because my form is good. And today I felt good on the bike too."

But that was not the only thing Nieuwenhuis credited his victory to. In addition to his good form in recent weeks, the cyclo-cross rider also attributes his good feeling to his childhood years, when Nieuwenhuis rode a lot on his BMX bike. "I used to do a lot of BMX. That helped me to stay calm today. That's how I developed the technique for this course."
