Nys skips Koksijde, after Vanthourenhout, Van der Haar and Van der Poel another big name cancels

Cyclo-cross riders have been extremely busy the past weeks, and it has been felt. This afternoon, another rider joins the group of absentees in Koksijde, as Thibau Nys also suffers from health issues. The European champion will, therefore, skip Koksijde. His participation in the cyclocross in Gullegem on Saturday is also doubtful.
After Michael Vanthourenhout, Lars van der Haar, and Mathieu van der Poel had to skip the X2O-cross, Nys was forced to adjust his schedule. The young Belgian champion had hoped to forget his weaker performance on New Year's Day in the home race with a good performance in Koksijde, but not being fully fit keeps him on the sideline.

The Belgian championship as ultimate goal, no need to take unnecessary risks
Nevertheless, Nys had recently recorded a strong series in Belgium and The Netherlands, with second in Zonhoven and Loenhout, third in Gavere and Diegem, and fifth in Baal. In the last cyclo-ross, however, Nys suffered bad luck.
Nys, who has his sights set on the Belgian championships scheduled for next week, does not want to take risks given the long season ahead. Therefore, the team confirmed to Wielerflits that his participation in the cyclo-cross in Gullegem next Saturday remains doubtful.

But one thing I think he should focus on more intently is breaking a bad habit he has, right now. And that is his constant looking over his shoulders. He does that so much, that I am very sure it is not good for him. Simply watch videos of the greats of CX and you will see very little of that constant looking over their shoulders. That is a behavior that betrays a bit of insecurity on his part. He shouldn't be so concerned, incessantly, about what is over his shoulder. He needn't worry they didn't all disappear. He neds to keep his focus more ahead of himself, and he needs to pay a bit more attention to himself, in a confident manner. It is very frustrating to watch, because it is apparent that he has a lot of potential, and is in much better shape thwan many of his competitors, but the mental game needs to be sharpened more, because that part of strategy plays a huge part in the final results
