This is a true classic on the calendar. The end of the year is almost here, and Diegem automatically comes to mind. The epic night race in Belgium guarantees entertainment, and you can bet it will be no different without defending champion Mathieu van der Poel at the start on December 30.

The world champion is not coming to Diegem because the day before, he is competing in the World Cup in Besançon, France. The rainbow jersey will be back in Baal on January 1 for the Sven Nys GP, the perfect opportunity for others to succeed.

Course, weather and times Superprestige Diegem 2024

The cyclo-cross in Diegem is one of the few races with artificial light, which makes it more impressive on TV. One-third is completed on asphalt, which makes it less difficult and increases the pace. It is also chaotic right away in the sections without asphalt, with a sandbox, all sorts of barriers, bridges, and stairs.

Weather
It's getting winter in Belgium, and so is Diegem. The temperature drops as the rain disappears from the country and the sun takes its chance more often. In the days leading up to the race, the temperature dropped below zero at night, and on December 29, it was only three degrees in the evening. A day later, it gets a lot milder again. The wind picks up (at wind force three from the southwest) and provides a more pleasant temperature of up to 8 degrees.

Favorites men's Superprestige Diegem 2024

So, there will be no Mathieu van der Poel, Wout van Aert, or Tom Pidcock. It will be one of those few chances for others to win again, and so many of them are there in Diegem. From Pauwels Sauzen-Bingoal, we list World Cup and UCI leader Michael Vanthourenhout and his injured colleague Eli Iserbyt on the start list.

They will be challenged by several squads, starting with Baloise Trek Lions. Lars van der Haar and Thibau Nys are in the game there. From Corelan-Corendon, eyes are on man-in-form Laurens Sweeck, with Joran Wyseure as an interesting joker. Alpecin-Deceuninck, in the absence of Van der Poel, still has a strong card to play with Niels Vandeputte as the overall leader. Other candidates? Toon Aerts, Felipe Orts, and Kevin Kuhn could be with the best on a good day.

Favorites women's Superprestige Diegem 2024

The starting field among the women is also pretty solid, although we are missing world champion Fem van Empel on behalf of Visma | Lease a Bike. With Puck Pieterse, Lucinda Brand, and Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado, the other three Dutch stars are present. Pieterse won the last two editions in Diegem and is thus a top favorite.

Marion Nobert Riberolle stood out among the Belgians with a win in Loenhout. Can she also stunt against the other riders? The Frenchwoman Perrine Clauzel and the Italian Sara Casasola are confirmed from outside the Dutch and Belgian borders.
