The Tour de France Femmes, inaugurated in 2022, is a premier women’s stage race in professional cycling, held annually in France. Organized by the Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO), the Tour de France Femmes was launched to offer female cyclists a similarly prestigious platform to the men’s Tour de France. This multi-stage race spans diverse terrains across France, from flat sprinter-friendly routes to challenging mountain stages, designed to test riders’ endurance, climbing ability and strategic prowess.
In its short history, the Tour de France Femmes has quickly gained attention, drawing large audiences and bringing increased visibility to women’s cycling. It has become an essential addition to the women’s WorldTour calendar.
In 2022, Annemiek van Vleuten (from the Netherlands) won the inaugural title with a commanding performance, including a decisive victory on the final stage. In 2023, fellow Dutch rider Demi Vollering took the title, displaying impressive consistency and strength throughout the race. The 2024 edition saw a dramatic and closely contested finish, with Poland’s Katarzyna Niewiadoma narrowly winning by just four seconds over defending champion Demi Vollering, marking the closest finish in the event’s history. These victories underscore the high level of competition and the growing significance of the Tour de France Femmes in the cycling world.
