Alaphilippe and Soudal Quick-Step part ways: Frenchman moves to Tudor, Hayter joins the Wolfpack

It had been anticipated for some time, but it's now official: Julian Alaphilippe is leaving Patrick Lefevere's Soudal Quick-Step to join Fabian Cancellara's Tudor Pro Cycling Team. The Swiss team announced the news Monday morning in a post on X. Meanwhile, Ethan Hayter will be moving from INEOS Grenadiers to Lefevere's squad.

This marks the end of an eleven-year stint of loyal service at Soudal Quick-Step—also known as The Wolfpack—and its predecessors. During those years, the now 32-year-old Alaphilippe became a two-time world champion, won Milan-San Remo, triumphed three times in La Flèche Wallonne, and claimed six stage victories in the Tour de France.

Cancellara thrilled to welcome versatile Alaphilippe

"After more than ten years with the same team, it was time for a change," Alaphilippe, also known as "Loulou" or "Juju," explained in a statement on Tudor's website. "The Tudor Pro Cycling project appealed to me from the start. I’ve seen the team grow and develop. I also know a few riders and staff members already. What better way to mark a turning point in my career than with a new and ambitious project?"

"This is the biggest change since the start of my career," said the lean Frenchman. "It’s the first time I’ll be riding for a different team, and I think it’s good to change environments after so many years. The team makes me want to be part of it. I want to play my role as a leader and guide the younger riders, even though I’m not that old myself, haha! I have a lot of experience, and that can be important for the younger riders."

Cancellara was, of course, thrilled with Alaphilippe's arrival. "We are super happy to have Julian join the team. He is a great rider who perfectly embodies our #BornToDare attitude. He still has the fire needed to perform at the highest level, and he will bring stability and experience to the team. He is a smart rider but also a good person, with a great sense of humor, professionalism, and a bold attitude."

Hayter moves from INEOS Grenadiers to Soudal Quick-Step

Not long after the announcement of Alaphilippe's transfer, news broke that INEOS Grenadiers rider Ethan Hayter would be making the move to Soudal Quick-Step.
