"And then: bam, here I am, huh?" This is how Primoz Roglic experienced his day at the World Time Trial Championships in Switzerland

Primoz Roglic started Sunday as one of the outsiders at the World Time Trial Championships in Switzerland, but there was nothing more in store for the Slovenian than 12th place. Disappointed? No, not at all. 'At my age, I have to cycle every week to stay fit,' he said afterward in his distinctive tone to IDLProCycling.com and others.

"I'm happy because I got to the finish line," began the Vuelta winner in a good mood. "But no. Whatever I do, I always want to win. So I'm a little disappointed, but some things just suit me better than other things. The fact is that I can't blame myself because I gave everything from start to finish."

The Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe rider felt tired. "I had a tough time anyway. I don't know if it was the fatigue of the Vuelta, but it wasn't easy to keep pushing. And that's what you need for a tougher trial like this. Again, I am pleased that I made it to the finish," Roglic said after the chrono.

Roglic starts together with Pogacar at World Championship on the road

"It's hard to say to what extent I still feel the Vuelta," he stated in his report. "It was three difficult weeks in which we constantly pushed our limits. The weeks after that went by quickly. You are recovering in the first week, but after that, I had to start preparing for the World Championships quickly. And then, bam, here I am, huh? That didn't make it any easier, but now I must maintain the momentum for next week."

Because then Roglic will start alongside top favorite and compatriot Tadej Pogacar at the World Championships on the road. "To be honest, I mainly want to keep the rhythm for the last weeks of the season," said the man who will also finish the Tour of Lombardy. "At my age, that becomes difficult otherwise. It goes so fast, so I must keep cycling on the weekends to maintain my form."

Does he have ambitions at the World Championship and likes the course? "Poaaaah. If I feel like I did in this time trial, it won't help me. It's a different race, but you know what I want? I want to rest and then prepare with the Slovenian team, which I love being a part of. We are strong on paper but have yet to show that in racing. We'll see how it goes, day by day," he threw in two more of his rehearsed one-liners in conclusion.
