A major crash disrupted the second stage of Paris-Nice. Samuel Leroux (TotalEnergies) crashed and took around ten riders with him, including yellow jersey Tim Merlier (Soudal Quick-Step) and green jersey Arnaud Démare of Arkéa - B&B Hotels. The biggest casualty was Florian Sénéchal, Demare's lead-out.
Although there was not much going on in the second stage of the Race to the Sun, it was tense right from the start. Visma | Lease a Bike increased the pace as they exited a turn, and Leroux crashed at approximately twentieth position. Démare, Merlier, Sénechal, and Julien Bernard were among those who went down with him.
Sénéchal was immediately left behind in tears and was eventually taken away in an ambulance. The French rider already missed last spring, and it appears he will also have to skip the upcoming classics after the crash in Paris-Nice. All other riders could continue, although Kasper Asgreen (EF Education-EasyPost) and Danny van Poppel (Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe) had already been forced to abandon the race.
