On Friday in Trento, during the Il Festival dello Sport di Trento, RCS announced the route for the Giro d'Italia 2024. The Italian tour will start on May 4, 2024, in Turin and will conclude after 21 stages in Rome. The three weeks of racing will include numerous mountain stages, great opportunities for sprinters and also two long time trials.
Of course, as with every major tour, there was already some information about the Giro d'Italia 2024, in which a successor will be sought for Primoz Roglic. Mauro Vegni and his team had recently unveiled the route for the first three days, which, by Giro standards, are quite challenging. After the start in Turin - dedicated to the Superga air disaster of 1939 - the peloton will immediately face two tough stages.
There were also plenty of rumors in the run-up to the Giro about the remainder of the tour: Livigno, Stelvio, time trials and a final stage in Rome. All these topics were discussed in recent weeks, as were rumors about possible participants. For about a decade, the Giro has made it a serious goal to attract the best cyclists to the race, and it seems they have set their sights on Tadej Pogacar and Wout van Aert for the coming year. Both men have never participated in the Italian tour but are likely to decide on their schedule for the upcoming year in the next few weeks.
