Final day Tour of Britain provides autumn trauma: Pidcock and sensational Magnier out with concussion

A tough blow for INEOS Grenadiers and Tom Pidcock: the 25-year-old Briton sustained a concussion from a fall at the Tour of Britain, his team announced Monday afternoon via a post on X. Britain sensation Paul Magnier of Soudal-Quick Step also had to leave early with head injuries.

Due to his crash, Pidcock won't be able to compete in the Canadian duel, consisting of the GP Québec (Friday, Sept. 13) and the GP Montréal (Sunday, Sept. 15). "Due to his fall in the sixth stage of the Tour of Britain, we can confirm that Tom Pidcock has suffered a concussion. Tom will return home to recover and remains under the supervision of our medical team," the INEOS communiqué sounded. "He will begin to follow our protocol for resuming training after a concussion. Unfortunately, he won't be able to race in the upcoming Canadian races."

Earlier this week, Pidcock also made headlines. Then, he announced in an interview with HLN that his relationship with INEOS Grenadiers is not the best. "Yes, it is true that, at the moment, there are some issues within the team that I have to deal with. Honestly, those don't help me perform optimally. I have to think about a lot more than just performance-related things. And that makes the focus on the essential things, namely racing, not ideal," he told me then.

Paul Magnier also suffers concussion at Tour of Britain

Pidcock was not the only rider involved in Sunday's final stage crash. Paul Magnier was also involved, with the same diagnosis. The only 20-year-old Frenchman of Soudal-Quick Step dominated the sprints, winning no less than three stages. Yet he was missing in the final stage to Felixstowe in the bunch sprint. The sprint bomb born in Laredo fell severely, and his team shared an update on Sunday night via official channels. "Magnier was transported to the hospital in Ipswich after his fall for a series of examinations."

"Paul underwent a CT scan, which showed that he had suffered a serious concussion that forced him to spend the night in hospital. During the same fall, the 20-year-old also suffered serious abrasions to his elbow and knee, which needed stitches. Everyone at Soudal-Quick Step wishes Paul a quick and complete recovery," the Belgian formation said.
