Finally some good news for Lotto team? At least one major co-sponsor secured on a crucial day

From a sporting perspective, 2024 has been an excellent year for the Lotto Dstny team. The Belgian squad boasts a key part of Belgium's cycling future with riders like Arnaud De Lie, Lennert Van Eetvelt, Maxim Van Gils, and Jarno Widar, all of whom delivered strong performances this season. However, for weeks there has been unrest: co-sponsor Dstny will not be continuing, and the search for a replacement is still ongoing.

However, Het Laatste Nieuws reported on Tuesday morning a significant boost for the Belgian team, which aims to continue growing toward the WorldTour. While Dstny is leaving, another sponsor is staying on board. This is Caps, a fuel company that had also been linked to other sports teams, including several football clubs. Caps played a major role in financing the team's buses and contributed to part of the team's cash flow.

The October 15 deadline was just met, thanks to Caps

An important detail: Tuesday, October 15, was the deadline for several matters related to securing licenses. By October 2, teams had to present their financial statements to the UCI and Deloitte for approval. This Tuesday, the focus was on the next part of the licensing dossier, specifically the administration of contracts for both riders and staff. The renewal of Caps was reportedly a factor in the approval of these dossiers.

If this had not been in order, riders would have been free to seek out other teams. This could have potentially opened a new chapter in the ongoing saga surrounding, for instance, Widar or the sought-after Van Gils. However, things are not quite that far along yet, although there may still be some unrest surrounding the successful team, which is eager to continue growing with Belgian talents on the cycling ladder.
