It was in the air for days, but the official announcement has finally arrived: Maxim Van Gils has signed a contract for Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe. The 25-year-old Belgian caused quite a stir by terminating his contract with Lotto Dstny. The German formation benefited optimally and has hired classic specialists for three years.
In a press release, Van Gils states he is delighted with the move to his new team. "I am proud to be of interest to Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe," he said. "I felt a special connection with the team from the very first moment. Now, I want to work hard with them to achieve big goals. My adventure with the new colors starts tomorrow!" The winner of Eschborn-Frankfurt immediately joins Red Bull's training camp, which begins on December 10 in Mallorca.
Ralph Denk, general manager of Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe, is pleased with his new pupil and thanks the other parties who made the transfer possible. "I am grateful that, after Maxim expressed his desire to change teams, his advisor, Stéphane Heulot, and I handled the situation professionally. That's what made the transfer possible. Maxim has delivered top results from spring to fall. It's not by chance that you finish on the podium at Strade and in the Ardennes, especially at such a young age. It shows strength but also potential. We will continue to develop this with our performance structure."

Van Gils announced on November 19 that he wanted to leave Lotto Dstny despite a current contract with the formation. The request was granted after much hassle and media attention. The puncher specialist was free to look for a new team. Red Bull quickly interfered, but Astana Qazaqstan also fought for the signature. In the end, it was the German team that prevailed.
