On Saturday, Tadej Pogacar started Milan-Sanremo in a black outfit but finished in his white rainbow jersey variant. The Slovenian from UAE Emirates-XRG—like the rest of the peloton—changed clothes when they reached the coast, and the weather cleared up, but how did he manage to change his pants? Thanks to a teammate, we discovered how he did it.

Pogacar started La Primavera completely in a black outfit but crossed the finish line in a white one, in third place. The scenarios had already been discussed in various podcasts, concluding that Pogacar must have changed clothes along the way.

Teammate Florian Vermeersch - who was not present in Milan-Sanremo himself - explained the change of clothes in the Vals Plat podcast. "He was wearing different pants on top of his sprint suit. He wasn't naked on the side of the road," the Belgian explained with a smile.

Vermeersch enjoyed Milan-Sanremo 2025

Vermeersch rode Nokere Koerse, GP Denain and Bredene Koksijde Classic last week and was therefore able to watch Milan-Sanremo on the sofa. Like all cycling enthusiasts, he immensely enjoyed the battle between Pogacar, Mathieu van der Poel, and Filippo Ganna. 'It was impressive. From the Cipressa on, it was one of the most beautiful races I can remember as a spectator.

His team's plan, UAE Emirates-XRG, could not be completed. "They've been working on it since December, how they were going to tackle Milan-Sanremo. It's not rocket science because you want to make the race as fast as possible with Tadej. The only moment you can do that is the Cipressa. To gain a minute, it is very clever." Tim Wellens and Jhonatan Narváez implemented this tactic, as did team leader Pogacar. In the end, however, Van der Poel was too strong/clever in Sanremo.
