Tom Pidcock has won the difficult fourth stage of the AlUla Tour. The Brit, who previously won the second stage, outclassed his competitors again. If nothing crazy happens tomorrow, Pidcock will crown himself the overall winner of the AlUla Tour after two stage wins.

The AlUla Tour is nearing its end, but before the riders start Saturday's final stage, there is one final test for the riders. The fourth stage ended on the Skyviews of Harrat Uwayrid, a finish preceded by a steep 2.5-kilometer climb at a 12 percent gradient.

Attacking early with son Vinokourov

Early in the race, three riders chose to go for it. Alessandro Romele and Alexandre Vinokurov (XDS Astana Team) went on the attack and were joined by - how could it be otherwise - Belgian Jens Reynders. Reynders, the leader in the classification for a most offensive rider, collected an extra point at the first intermediate sprint, making his victory in this secondary classification almost sure.

Behind the three leaders, a second breakaway group of five riders formed, which managed to join the leading group at 85 kilometers from the finish. However, this group did not include riders from a WorldTour team. En route to the finale, Reynders also won the second intermediate sprint, while three riders—including Vinokurov, who was part of the early breakaway—had to drop out.

Pidcock prevailed on final climb

However, the lead of the remaining five breakaway riders quickly reduced, and they were caught by the peloton at the start of the climb to the Skyviews of Harrat Uwayrid. Soon, GC leader Pidcock showed himself at the front and set the pace on the Saudi prowler. Due to his fast pace, several riders were forced to drop out.

Pidcock accelerated brutally at 9.5 kilometers from the finish and outclassed his rivals. Once at the top, the Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team rider led nearly 30 seconds over his chasers. His victory was no longer in danger in the eight flat kilometers that followed. Alan Hatherly and Rainer Kepplinger finished second and third, respectively.
