Remco Evenepoel has completed his final major training session for the World Cycling Championships. The two-time Olympic champion (Soudal Quick-Step) prepared for the World Championships in Zürich and shared his impressive ride with the world through Strava.
On Instagram, the Belgian let everyone know he’s ready for the World Championships. He shared an overview of his ride via Strava: a monstrous journey of over 260 kilometers and 3.600 meters of elevation. He completed this tough course in just about seven hours, with an average speed of 36.6 kilometers per hour — impressive stats for what was supposed to be just a training ride. After Tadej Pogacar showed his readiness for the World Championships in Switzerland by winning the GP Montréal in Canada, his Belgian rival is proving in his own way that he’s more than eager to take on the challenge.
Since 2022, Evenepoel has had an apartment in Calpe, which has become his standard base for training. The Spanish province of Alicante offers fantastic cycling, and the Wollongong world champion takes full advantage of that. Typically, riders opt to stay in places like Monaco or Andorra, but the 2022 Vuelta a España winner chose a different approach. "I considered those places too," he mentioned in an interview with Belgian media outlet Het Laatste Nieuws. "But overall, Calpe is more ideal. Two hours by plane, and then just one more hour by car. It’s easier to have friends and family visit. It has nothing to do with taxes. If that were the case, I’d be much better off living somewhere else."

Another double victory for Evenepoel after Paris?

In Zürich, Evenepoel is aiming for two world titles. In 2022, he won the road race title in Australia, and a year later, he claimed the time trial in Glasgow. Now, he hopes to add a double title to his list of achievements. He already managed this at the Paris Olympics this year. A double title in Switzerland would be an unprecedented feat.
