With title sponsor Red Bull, Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe aims to join the super teams Visma | Lease a Bike and UAE Team Emirates. Last year, the basis for this was laid out, but the team is not there yet. Steps are being taken in every area, but the nutrition department has now lost an important person. Slovenian Exercise Physiologist Tim Podlogar, who dealt with nutritional strategies, will move to Tudor Pro Cycling. The arrival of his compatriot Primoz Roglic was a big reason for his departure.
Podlogar is not a name many people will be familiar with. However, the University of Birmingham professor was one of the masterminds behind Jai Hindley's success in the 2022 Giro d'Italia. But it was time for a new adventure. "As for the team, two important things happened this year: the first was the arrival of Primoz, and the second was the arrival of Red Bull as a new sponsor. Both led to the team's ambitions being much higher than what we could fulfill," the Slovenian is honest in a conversation with Siol.
"This season was extremely stressful because of Primoz's arrival on the team. As a Slovenian, I felt extra pressure because a lot is always expected of Primoz. I would be extremely disappointed if it were the nutrition that made it impossible for him to achieve his goals. Given that he came from the most organized team and, therefore, rightfully had high expectations, this meant that quite a bit of extra work was involved. Monitoring his training and planning his meals every day was extremely stressful. Especially given that I was working remotely and simultaneously full-time at the university."

Winning the Tour was unrealistic for Red Bull: "Not ready yet"

Dan Lorang, head coach at the German formation, stated earlier in an interview that it was really just the Red Bull name on the chest last season, but the money wasn't there yet. "That's actually how the situation was. We had high ambitions; we wanted to win the Tour de France, but we were not ready yet, nor were we equipped to do so in terms of resources. If anyone thought otherwise, they were lying to themselves."
So Podlogar goes to Tudor, one level down. He will work more behind the scenes at the Swiss team. "The decision was also helpful because this year's season with the team was incredibly stressful, and I just had enough of everything. I wanted to change environments, so Tudor popped up. I have known one of the coaches there for a long time and have worked with him on other projects. I quickly accepted the offer when they invited me to join the team."
