Primoz Roglic is finally back in action this week. In the Tour of Catalonia, the Slovenian hopes to demonstrate his abilities in the run-up to his first main goal of the year: the Giro d'Italia. The Spanish WorldTour race is a good indicator for the multiple winner of La Vuelta, partly because Juan Ayuso will also be at the start. Everyone knows Juan Ayuso wants to win the Giro d'Italia, too. In an interview with Slovenian RTVSLO, Roglic talks about the upcoming race.

"We will see how good I am with the other big names also at the start," the 35-year-old rider begins his story. "When the race is over, I think we will be able to conclude a few things. But I have trained well, and the team's preparation has gone smoothly. In any case, I am really looking forward to finally getting some race kilometers into the legs again."

The Tour of Catalonia is an essential benchmark for the Red Bull-BORA-Hansgrohe rider. "This race will be beneficial in preparing for the Giro. The next few days will be important for me to race well with my teammates. We can also see what we are still lacking in the team so that we can focus on that in the coming weeks."

Roglic doesn't know what to expect in Catalonia

The Slovenian started his season in the Volta ao Algarve, finishing eighth in the GC. "Nowadays, there is no easy cycling race, and I experienced that in the Algarve. It was difficult, but it is also true that I did not have good preparation. I am already much better, but whether this will be enough for a final victory, a podium finish, or some good results on specific days, I do not know at this moment."

In the first stage, Roglic finished fifteenth in the group of favorites. The Slovenian said beforehand: "The first days will certainly not be easy. I already know that because I had no competition in my legs before this race. The first stages are mainly about getting through, and the mountain stages will really show us the current level. Then, we will really see who is the strongest in the race."

Roglic wants to improve; winning is not a priority

Cycling always changes; you must adapt constantly, and the rider continues. "It is important that you respond well to the changes in cycling. If you want to win, you actually have to have a personal view on cycling and approach things differently. But still, the most important thing is always to give it your all and enjoy cycling."

But winning is not a priority for the climber this week. "I will not focus on the result at all this week. Of course, we will give it our all, but whether I win, make the podium, or finish in the top ten is not what this week is about. We have had some great preparations, and as a team, we will do everything we can, but winning is not the most important thing. We will see what happens," Roglic concludes his story.
