Harrie Lavreysen lost the first Sprint of the Champions League. In the final, the British rider - formerly Australian - Matthew Richardson was remarkably stronger than the world champion.
The Champions League track cycling kicked off Saturday in France. At the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines cycling track, the best sprinters and endurance riders competed against each other. Regarding sprint events, Lavreysen, a world champion and Olympic champion, is the top favorite. Nevertheless, in the sprint finals, he got quite a beating from his rival Richardson.
It is not the first time Richardson has been better than Lavreysen in the Champions League. For example, the British rider won the sprint series 2022, and Richardson kept Lavreysen from a 100 percent score last edition. Because of UCI rules, Richardson missed the recent track cycling World Championships due to his change in nationality. He also cannot participate in next year's European Championships in Belgium.
