Simon Yates to Visma | Lease a Bike Official! The 31-year-old Brit joins from Team Jayco-AlUla, where he spent his entire career. Both parties are hopeful that this move will elevate their climbing performance and improve their standings in the general classifications.

The transfer of Yates to Visma | Lease a Bike had been a strong rumor for some time and was finally confirmed on Friday, August 2, through official channels. It involves a two-season contract. "Team Visma | Lease a Bike sees him as a significant reinforcement for our general classification team in grand tours and one-week stage races," the announcement reads.

Grischa Niermann, part of the sports management team, expressed being "very satisfied" with Yates' arrival. His twin brother Adam has already been with UAE-Team Emirates alongside Tadej Pogačar, and Simon will soon race with Jonas Vingegaard. "He is a very strong climber and an absolute asset to our general classification team. Simon will have the chance to aim for results himself but will also be a valuable asset to the team in the mountains."

While Adam Yates has taken his development to the next level at UAE-Team Emirates, the team hopes to achieve the same with Simon Yates. "We believe that, thanks to our way of working, he can reach an even higher level," said Niermann. Yates himself is thrilled with his transfer. "This is a team I have admired for a long time, and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to join them. I have already achieved some great results in my career, and I look forward to working hard and contributing to the team's success."

Slightly media-trained texts and a thank you to Jayco-AlUla are inevitable. At that team, Yates built an impressive record, with the highlight being his overall victory in the 2018 Vuelta a España. He has already accumulated 34 wins, including stage victories in all three grand tours. "Despite the great time I've had with my current team, I felt it was time to change teams to continue improving and to get the most out of myself. I look forward to meeting all my new teammates and staff and starting 2025 on a high note."
